Position Overview

 

This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the total manufacturing operations of the Missoula, MT site which consists of thirty associates. Leads and directs all activities associated with the production effort including environmental, safety and health assurance, recruiting/training/development of Operations associates, directing the production workforce, maintaining inventories of raw materials, and finished goods, and optimization of process efficiencies. Implements Company policies, safety, environmental and quality programs, and employee relations policies. Coordinates efforts between production areas and other business functions and represents Missoula, MT manufacturing in the North Region. Effectively leads the site and its people in alignment with overall business goals. Champions site Productivity projects that drive cost and variability reduction.

Job Responsibilities

 

Environmental, Health, and Safety

  • Ensures site compliance with all safety, health and environmental laws, codes, and standards.
  • Responsible for driving safety culture at the site.
  • Provides leadership to the site and its personnel to drive continuous EHS improvement; demonstrates high visibility on the production floor driving improvements and accountability.
  • Works with EH&S staff, develops and implements programs, processes, and procedures to ensure the safety and health of all associates working at the site. Ensures site support of EHS improvements.
  • Ensures site operating guides are maintained and that site associate training is robust to ensure success.
  • Develops and maintains a constructive relationship and dialogue between the site, the community, and local regulatory bodies as appropriate.
  • Follows Process Safety Management standards and hazard recognition.
  • Reviews all incident investigations, PHA’s, operator certification check sheets, annual procedure reviews, confined space permits and MOC documents.

 

Human Resource Management

  • Establishes employee performance expectations and ensures they are met throughout areas of responsibility.
  • Establishes and ensures implementation and adherence to training programs for Operating associates.
  • Implements safety programs and ensures adherence to employee policies.
  • Aligns site practices with company policies, procedures, and expectations.
  • Effectively communicates Hexion/Site objectives to associates and encourages employee engagement in team activities.
  • Actively involved in recruitment of salaried and hourly individuals.
  • Provides annual performance appraisals and direct feedback to reports.
  • Models Hexion core values always.

 

Productivity/Cost/Finance

  • Develops annual and multi-year budgets and plans targeting year after year performance improvement.
  • Manages and measures cost performance and takes corrective cost control action.
  • Develops, leads, and directs site productivity improvement programs and processes using Six Sigma tools, to drive human and capital resource optimization.
  • Monitors all plant costs and explains adjustments and variances.

 

Capital/Facilities and Process Improvement

  • Manages site capital planning and spending to both reduce business and EH&S risk and improve cost and profitability.
  • Ensures site maintenance is adequate and appropriate to support business reliability needs and to maximize unit up-time.
  • Utilizes most effective technology assessment to improve overall process capability, yield and configuration.
  • Champions continuous improvement Six Sigma methodology usage across the site to reduce waste and variability.

 

Quality and Customer Satisfaction

  • Uses statistical tools to monitor in-process and finished goods quality, as well as work process improvement activities.
  • Ensures timely delivery of quality products to customers.
  • Organizes and enables quality improvement efforts at the site, aligned with business and customer priorities.
  • Ensures appropriate internal and external customer focus in daily activities onsite.
  • Manages and measures overall customer satisfaction of delivered products and services.

Minimum Qualifications

 
  • Experience in the chemical industry and focused experience with manufacturing products and processes in a PSM (process safety management) chemical manufacturing environment.
  • 15+ years total professional experience with 8-10 years in a supervision and managing both staff and hourly employees.  Preferred candidate has strong Chemical plant experience leading/managing a chemical manufacturing site.
  • Proven track record to sustain, change and embed safe operations within a plant environment and the associates.
  • Is a role model leading plant based teams with strong safety performance while understanding the cultural elements required to instill a personal safety mindset.
  • Must have demonstrated leadership experience and team building skills.  
  • Must have experience in Lean Six Sigma tools and Techniques to drive continual improvement and operational excellence.  Includes 5S, Lean, Gemba, Leader Standard Work, Visual Management and KPI targets.
  • Technical writing, math and statistical analysis and analytical problems solving skills.
  • Maintenance and production optimization experience.
  • Skilled project manager.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and motivate subordinates.
  • Ability to work with and motivate peers and within teams.  
  • Significant experience with EHS to include working knowledge and practice of OSHA, EPA, PSM.

 

Education:

  • Engineering undergraduate degree (Chemical Engineering, Mechanical, or Manufacturing).  

Preferred Qualifications

 
  • Prior plant leadership experience
  • Experience working within teams in a matrixed organization.
  • Experience with Incuity, SAP, SAP Maintenance Modules, and Mechanical Integrity
  • Experience in ISO 9000
