Position Overview

 

Serves as a Site Maintenance Technician (mechanic). A Maintenance Technician should be fully (and demonstrably) confident of their technical and personal abilities and should be able to use their abilities to positively affect the personnel and plant around them on a daily basis. A Maintenance Technician should be willing to play a larger role in “looking outward” and promoting positive change throughout the entire plant.

 

Job Responsibilities

 
  • Installing, configuring, troubleshooting, maintaining, and documenting plant process equipment, instrumentation and control systems. 
  • Ensures work is captured in SAP maintenance module system. 
  • Participates in plant safety, environmental, and production programs, including improvement teams. 
  • Assists with project activities as necessary.
  • Environmental compliance, quality control, inventory management, housekeeping, and maintenance within the resin department.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by Leadership.

  • Ensures that safe work practices are followed; ensures Hexion FPD Safety Manual is followed.
  • Participates in safety audits, training, inspections, and PSM/PHA activities.
  • Ensures that unsafe conditions are resolved in a timely manner.

  • Direct emergency response activities and play a leadership role in developing and executing emergency preparedness drills.
  • Ensures excellent housekeeping is maintained at all times, Ability to safely direct activities during resin unit maintenance and operational changes (including safe work and hot work permits, etc).
  • Initiate Management of Change process by recognizing changes within the process that necessitate the Management of Change process.

Environmental Compliance:

  • Ensures environmental policies and practices are followed and that spills are properly reported and managed. Demonstrates a working knowledge of the site air permit and waste management program and assists in training of other employees. Quality Participates in the investigation of quality incidents and takes action to prevent recurrence. 
  • Ensures that maintenance procedures are adequate and followed.
  • Demonstrates analytical insight and process knowledge of entire production process.

Core Functions:

  • Coordinates, schedules, performs and completes work orders and PM inspections technically.
  • Ensures all I&E and mechanical work and inputs information into SAP maintenance system to record and document repair.
  • Performs hands-on mechanical installation, repair and maintenance for all process equipment at the site.
  • Build maintenance/equipment technical data and update equipment files.
  • Develop and maintain inventory of maintenance materials and equipment spare parts.
  • Interact with vendors in getting parts identified properly for ordering and delivery.
  • Gain an intimate understanding of process and process variables.
  • Works closely with the Regional Mechanical Integrity & Reliability Specialists to maintain consistent equipment standards of operability and documentation.
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Willingness and ability to coordinate the activities of the team when a resin outage occurs.
  • Effectively troubleshoots and solves operational issues.
  • Demonstrates analytical insight and process knowledge and the ability to offer appropriate and timely corrective actions.  Willingness and courage to accept the responsibility for one’s actions, act appropriately based upon the situation, and be accountable for the results.
  • Independently completes day-to-day tasks with minimal supervision and to complete other special assignments, with an appropriate level of supervisory involvement.
  • Ensures reporting and resolution of process or mechanical variations or deviations.
  • Knowledge of SAP maintenance modules including the work order notification process.
  • Assists in scheduling shutdowns to maintain reliable and efficient operations.
  • Leadership Works well with others; promotes attitude of continuous improvement.
  • Effectively manages change in a positive way.
  • Adheres to all Company policies and procedures.
  • Willingness and ability to represent site management during their shift (observes all rules and company requirements whether management is present or not).
  • Assists Shift Leaders to direct shift activities of operating personnel, contractors, etc. during routine and abnormal operations if required.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • 5 years of experience in industrial mechanic and instrumentation
  • Excellent organizational, communication and planning skills; learns quickly, and is detail oriented
  • Ability to read mechanic, electronic and pneumatic schematics
  • Ability to troubleshoot instrumentation systems
  • Understanding of chemical plant processes while demonstrating good safety practices
  • Mechanical experience with pumps and motors.
  • Pipefitting, conduit installation/wiring and general millwright skills
  • Must be available for night call-ins
  • Experienced forklift operator

  • Must be able to analyze and interpret data, come to sound conclusion and make recommendations.
  • Physical:  Walking, driving, standing, lifting 55 pounds repeatedly, sitting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, fingering, talking, hearing, and seeing.  Ability to enter confined spaces and wear a respirator.
  • Aptitudes:  Must possess the ability to understand the meaning of words and their ideas, as well as instructions and their underlying principles.  Perform some arithmetic operations, possess eye-hand motor coordination and be able to operator a forklift.
  • Temperament:  Must have the ability to accept responsibility, perform duties under stress, adapt to situations requiring preciseness and adapt to changing duties and responsibilities.  Must be able to adapt to situations involving the interpretation of feelings, ideas, or facts; be able to influence people in the opinions, attitudes or judgments; and be able to generalize, evaluate, make decisions and perform repetitive work.
