Position Overview

 

An opportunity exists for a high achieving, self-motivated and results driven individual to join the team at our manufacturing plant in Hornby, Christchurch.

 

The Production Manager will be instrumental in ensuring the efficient utilization of labour and equipment, aiming for optimal productivity and reliable service to our customers. This role involves partnering with the Site Leader in strategic and tactical productivity initiatives, as well as all aspects of workforce management. Additionally, the Production Manager will serve as the second-in-command (2IC) for the site in the Site Leader's absence.
 

Job Responsibilities

Role and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 

  • Manage entire production function including production staff and be responsible for all health, safety, quality and environmental issues.
  • Coordinate all shift and day production activities, including rosters.
  • Achieve team performance targets, through active coaching and team leadership
  • Ensure all production requirements are coordinated to optimise the plant’s production capacity
  • Manage maintenance schedules of all plant equipment, tools and other company assets
  • Support the execution of Lean manufacturing projects
  • Take responsibility for all continuous improvement, productivity/efficiency, process optimisation and flow improvement initiatives at the site.
  • Assume the role of acting site leader in the absence of the site leader.
  • Be the first line of grievance handling & management.
  • Lead the site EHS committee and  work to monitor and improve EHS performance.
  • Lead the quality program as ISO 9000 management representative and use sigma scores and other quality data to improve quality.
  • Manage and coordinate training and staff development for direct reports 
  • Ensure production budget and financial targets are achieved
     

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the following attributes:

 

  • Extensive hands-on, front-line, supervisory experience within a unionised environment preferably in the chemical industry, in combination with relevant tertiary qualifications.
  • Significant experience dealing with occupational health, safety and environmental issues, and Major Hazard Facility experience is desirable.
  • Proven track record of implementing continuous improvement/LEAN/Six Sigma projects
  • Ability to support stated business objectives, implement policies and procedures and actively champion change.
  • Well-developed leadership skills with the ability to monitor and review performance.
  • Proven ability to work in a highly demanding environment dealing with conflicting priorities that requires initiative, flexibility, adaptability and high-level analytical problem solving skills.
  • Highly motivated, professional with a positive outlook.
