Position Overview

 

Remote Position - can be located anywhere in the US. 

 

The company is searching for a Senior Commodity manager to manage key global raw material requirements within our world-class organization. The individual is responsible for up to $150MM in annual global spend and will play a leading role in the development, negotiation, and implementation of global strategic sourcing plans. Hexion is a top tier global buyer of materials in this portfolio. Additionally, the Senior Commodity Manager will work with some of Hexion’s largest and most visible raw material suppliers, will be a crucial communicator to both senior leaders and internal customers, and will see immediate business impact from their actions. Deep commodity expertise, create strategy development, strong execution and effective relationship management with suppliers and internal customers are critical functions of this role. 

Job Responsibilities

 

Develop strategic raw material strategies for critical agreements by: 

  • Assessing trade flows 
  • Building or maintaining cost analytics 
  • Outlining Hexion and producer BATNAs 
  • Developing a should-cost perspective 
  • Aligning on forward plan for contract execution 
  • Maximize value through aggressive and creative use of commercial levers, operational levers while communicating on risk versus reward to stakeholders 
  • Source commodities for various global production sites per strategy, with some local day to day support 
  • Negotiate in a timely manner all aspects of supply contracts including pricing, payment terms, logistics and volumes, to guarantee security of supply, minimize working capital, drive productivity, reduce delivery costs and ensure quality in accordance with business demands 
  • Become the market expert; build strong value-added relationships for assigned commodities to drive value and manage internal and external communications 
  • Contribute to both procurement and business team meetings, report on deep dive of personal quarterly actions within global procurement processes 
  • Leverage and engage the global procurement team to ensure coordination and create value 
  • Develop strong relationships with internal customers 
  • Coordinate and assist in the development of monthly or annual price forecasts and budgets 

Contract Writing: 

  • Consistently demonstrates excellence in driving value through Business Services contract program 
  • Consistently executes contracts, or aligns changes of contracting intent with stakeholders 
  • Mentors, consults and engages with others on various levels of contracts and demonstrates commercial diligence 
  • Proficient in multiple types of contracts and complexity  
  • Develops contracts with long-term strategic value  
  • Creatively adjusts clauses benefitting the company   
  • Has insights of best-in-class contracts available in the market and organization  
  • Viewed by stakeholders as strong in contract writing and knowledge 

 

Negotiation Skills: 

  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) both internally and externally  
  • Ability to successfully complete large negotiations/projects  
  • Consistently exceeds the pre-established negotiation goals; able to adapt negotiation strategy as needed.  Comfortable setting aggressive outcome goals 
  • Supports and coaches others in their negotiations 
  • Viewed as an expert / resource not only on commodity set, but negotiations in general  
  • Strong Supplier Relationship Management / Partnership with supplier and ability to fully leverage relationship with supplier 
  • Effectively uses procurement management within multi-level supplier relationships 

 

Market Analysis and Strategy Development: 

  • Viewed as an expert for a commodity to internal and external stakeholders  
  • Ability to utilize market knowledge to anticipate impact in the market, other commodities, regions, etc. (i.e. Global Commodity; impact on downstream materials) 
  • Skillful in converting market knowledge to strategy; innovative   
  • Market knowledge is proactively shared with peers or business teams and fully integrated into strategies  
  • Utilizes market knowledge to maximize both short and long-term value   

 

Process Utilization: 

  • Serves as role model and mentor to others in use and application of procurement processes and business services or as leader of procurement process 
  • Perceived as an innovative leader in development/improvement of procurement processes.  Creates value through processes 
     

Minimum Qualifications

 
  • 7+ years relevant commercial or procurement experience 
  • Strong analytical and creative strategic thinking skills with an attention to detail 
  • Knowledge of current technologies related to process analysis, supply chain optimization, procurement, and resource planning 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills 
  • Experience working in a matrix or multi-site organization 
  • History of value creation 
  • Travel - 25%-40%

 

Education Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or chemistry
