Position Overview

 

The Laboratory Technician – Raw Material Testing supports chemical manufacturing operations by performing routine testing of incoming raw materials. This role focuses on executing established laboratory methods, accurately documenting results, and ensuring materials meet quality and safety requirements before use in production.

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Perform routine raw material testing independently using approved laboratory methods and procedures
  • Prepare samples, standardize reagents, and test solutions according to written instructions
  • Operate basic laboratory equipment and instruments 
  • Perform scaled laboratory experiments
  • Record test data, calculations, and observations clearly and accurately in laboratory records and electronic systems
  • Compare results to specifications and implement required protocol for out-of-specification results, including appropriate disposition
  • Extract data, construct charts/graphs and complete quantitative analysis of data to identify trends, draw conclusions and provide recommendations
  • Recognize problems and resolve test discrepancies when they occur 
  • Follow all safety, quality, and environmental procedures, including proper use of PPE
  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness, organization, and readiness for audits or inspections
  • Assist with equipment cleaning, basic maintenance, and calibration activities
  • Develop and write Standard Operating Procedures for raw material testing
  • Train and certify associates on raw material testing
  • Support investigations, re-testing, and continuous improvement activities as assigned
  • Work collaboratively and effectively communicate with quality, manufacturing, R/D and supply chain teams to support plant operations
  • Respond to requests for information and data
  • Package and ship material to other labs and locations
  • Maintain sample preservation of raw materials
  • Enter SCARs (Supplier Corrective Action Report) and NCRs (Non-conformance Report); complete required documentation and follow up
  • Adhere to ISO9001 standards

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Associate degree or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, or a related scientific field (or equivalent laboratory coursework)
  • Basic understanding of laboratory practices and chemical safety
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to follow written procedures
  • Ability to perform repetitive testing with consistency and accuracy
  • Basic computer skills (data entry, spreadsheets, electronic documentation)

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform hands-on laboratory tasks
  • Ability to lift and handle materials up to approximately 25 lbs
  • Willingness to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Work may involve exposure to chemicals under controlled laboratory conditions

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Internship, co-op, or academic laboratory experience
    Exposure to chemical manufacturing or quality control environments
  • Familiarity with wet chemistry or physical property testing
  • Experience working with standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Experience or interest in working with data, statistics and graphs
  • Knowledge of ISO9001 standards
  • SAP knowledge
