Position Overview
Based in Diboll, Texas the R&D laboratory, Technical Service Representative will support projects from an application and technical perspective targeting the North American Market for the Plywood/LVL, OSB and other phenolic based applications. This hands-on role will also have responsibility leading and advising other technical team members. In addition, formulating, synthesize, characterize, performing application testing of products and provide manufacturing support and troubleshooting.
Job Responsibilities
- Ensure EH&S goals and targets are met and contribute to the EH&S culture of the business.
- Under the guidance of the NA Technical Leader Phenolics; design, formulate and synthesize polymer products (phenol formaldehyde and other polymers) to meet application requirements and customer priorities. Conduct characterization and application testing (including analytical analysis and preparation and testing of plywood and other wood composites).
- Enter resin formulations, SDSs information, etc into SAP.
- Self-starter with the ability to work in a team project environment as well as independent projects.
- Work with North American production sites and Engineering to optimize product manufacture, which may include visits to manufacturing sites.
- Assist sales/technical service with customer visits and field trials as needed.
- Keep accurate records and report results.
Safety and Housekeeping:
- Maintain a safe workplace and practices.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
- Assist in maintain chemical inventory and safety objectives.
Minimum Qualifications
- A minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience in a chemistry/wood science laboratory and/or wood related industry.
- Ability to conduct effective lab experimentation and write technical reports.
- Understanding of basic chemistry.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Team player with a high work ethic.
- Ability to learn quickly new technical concepts or areas of technology.
- Strong computer skills with experience in Excel, Word, PowerPoint
Education Requirements:
- B.S. Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Material Science or Wood Science or an equivalent combination of experience and education. Science related fields preferably in Wood Science, Forestry or Chemistry.
Physical Requirements of the job:
- Ability to work safely in Hexion and customer environments.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Ability to wear a respirator and pass a respirator fit test.
