Position Overview

 

The Maintenance Lead is a key member of the maintenance department primarily responsible for the availability of equipment and maintenance of all types of rotating and stationary equipment (including but not limited to blowers, pumps, fans, agitators, etc.) used in the manufacturing processes at Edmonton, AB. Responsible for coordinating and scheduling maintenance work, ensuring that maintenance work is carried out safely and in an environmentally compliant and efficient way. The Maintenance Lead is the primary liaison between Departments within the plant. 
The Maintenance Lead is responsible for directing maintenance technicians, contractors, and contracted services. Leads activities between Operations and the Maintenance for routine maintenance and equipment outages on Site. 

Job Responsibilities

 
  • Maximizing internal and external maintenance work forces productivity and work quality by eliminating potential delays and obstacles through proper planning and coordination of parts, machine time and manpower.  
  • Minimize equipment downtime through co-ordination of maintenance work with production scheduling.
  • Reviews work order notifications daily ensuring all fields are completed and accurate to aid in prioritization of work.
  • Processes work orders from conversion to work order from notification to planning, scheduling through to confirmation and equipment record updating. Processing includes obtaining and evaluating quotations for parts and service.
  • Ensure routine PM and inspection tasks are executed as planned and recommend changes/upgrades as required to improve equipment reliability.
  • Maintain the integrity of Hexion Canada Inc. required standards: including, but not limited to ISO, SOX, ABSA, & PF standards.
  • Monitors work order backlog to bring forward work orders for planning and scheduling based on priority and availability of other required trade groups.
  • Participates in regular housekeeping audits and daily tours of production areas to identify and communicate areas of strength and improvement.
  • Participates in quality and customer incident investigations and assists with identifying and implementing recommendations to prevent recurrence. 
  • Schedule/assign personnel, orders equipment and ensures materials are available for the workload.
  • Participates in equipment failure root cause analysis and employee training as requested.
  • Participates on site PSM and PHA teams.
  • Coordinates and schedules major and minor shutdowns/catalyst changes/projects/etc.
  • Inspect, assemble/disassemble, troubleshoot, and repair all types of rotating equipment used on the Edmonton site. 
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting mechanical system to include pumps, fans, blowers, gearboxes, etc.     
  • Assists in obtaining & evaluating quotations for parts and service. 
  • Assists in ordering and obtaining services and parts for repairs and replacements.
  • Responsible for training new technicians, in all activities directly related to all daily maintenance operations, upon addition of the new technician to the Hexion team. 
  • Provides input into capital and maintenance upgrade projects.

Organisational Relationships

Reports directly to the Maintenance Manager. Works closely with: 

  • Production Supervisors/Superintendent
  • Chief Steam Engineer
  • Regional Controls Specialist(s) and Engineering
  • Maintenance Associates & Contract Personnel 
  • Operations, Logistics, and Site Teams
  • Supply Chain Management/Scheduler

Is responsible for directing the activities of maintenance personnel and external contract service providers, with assistance from the Maintenance Manager and/or Department Supervisors.

Minimum Qualifications

 

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • 3-5 years of Maintenance Planning/Scheduling experience. 
  • 3-5 years of Leadership experience.
  • Computer literacy in MS Windows and computerized process systems is necessary.
  • Previous experience maintaining heavy industrial equipment.  Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical seals, equipment laser alignment, rigging, schematics, blueprints, overhead cranes, basic welding techniques are needed.
  • Possess good organizational skills.
  • Possess an understanding of industrial safety requirements for local jurisdiction.
  • Must be familiar with safety, environmental, and Industrial Hygiene rules and regulations.
  • Must understand and be familiar with relevant mechanical codes and standards specifications, appropriate to local jurisdiction.
  • Must know how to specify material and equipment needs.
  • Must have prior experience with maintenance information systems.
  • Computer literacy in MS Windows is necessary and SAP experience is a benefit.  

 

Education:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Interprovincial Trade Certificate – in a Mechanical discipline or Technical College Diploma/Certificate equivalent.
  • Certificates of competency as well as any required certification must be maintained and available upon request.

 

Special Skills or Requirements:

  • Must be physically fit and be capable of working while wearing a respirator (must be clean shaven at all times) and climbing vertical ladders.  
  • Capable of working at heights or within confined spaces.
  • This position requires “On Call" availability in all weather conditions.

Aptitudes: Must possess the ability to understand the meaning of words and their ideas, as well as instructions and their underlying principles.  Perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately and possess eye-hand motor coordination.  

 

Temperaments: Must have the ability to accept responsibility, perform duties under stress, adapt to situations requiring preciseness, and adapt to changing duties and responsibilities.  Must be able to adapt to situations involving the interpretation of feelings, ideas, or facts; be able to influence people in the opinions, attitudes, or judgments; and be able to generalize, evaluate, make decisions, and perform repetitive work.

 

Department Specific: May be required to operate (and be fully licensed to operate) a telehandler forklift, standard gas-powered forklift, aerial work platform (telescoping boom or scissor lift) or any other equipment that may be required for maintenance related tasks. All training for operation of these devices will be provided, as required, by Hexion.
