Position Overview

To prepare, coordinate and guide maintenance whether preventative, corrective, or predictive in all departments within the plant. Lead and schedule shutdown or outage activities to ensure that the plant runs optimally with regard to obtaining business results.

To minimize financial risks and costs by managing Maintenance activities, contractors, vendors, inventory, and service contracts (i.e., delivered quantities and quality in relation to agreed upon contracts, accounting keys and invoices) in line with corporate guidelines, in order to optimize company’s business performance on the site. Drives long term positive relationships within a culture of intrinsic safety and continuous improvement. Function as part of a safety sensitive site, report fit for duty and positively contribute to an environmentally sound manufacturing team.  Comply with all policies, procedures, and rules.  Participate in safety committees.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for preparation and coordination of (short term and long term) maintenance personnel and/or contractor activities in compliance with EHS regulations.
  • Coordinates day-to-day operational issues and discrepancies on site.
  • Reviewing and validating invoices, timesheets and other data tracked in the department.
  • Responsible for the assessment of requisitions.
  • Responsible for checking the status of activities in SAP.
  • Tracking and monitoring work order status and completion.
  • Responsible for quality programs and quality assessment of contractors.
  • Responsible for proposals regarding maintenance contracts and service level agreements.
  • Directing and developing people, conducting performance reviews, and providing feedback on a regular basis.
  • Conduct daily field visits, attend relevant meetings, bring updates.
  • Lead daily maintenance update meetings.
  • Monitor, track and improve departmental and plant KPI’s.
  • Demonstrated competence with ABSA requirements.
  • Active promotion of any Covid19 protocols in effect.
  • Entry of Safety KPI’s, issues, concerns, near misses or incidents in Hexion software.
  • Understand the ISO 9001 system and ensure hourly reports maintain conformance to all the system requirements.
  • Ensure all process areas and equipment is always maintained in clean and safe conditions to provide the team with an organized workplace and proper tools. Lead/Own 5S initiatives for the area and support 5S initiatives for the site.
  • Adhere to company SOX requirements.
  • Work with Production Scheduler and ensure any downtime is coordinated efficiently.
  • Performance and Results Orientation - Maintains focus on key performance drivers, continuously improves processes, and consistently delivers results.
  • Meet Commercial/Customer service requirements by projecting the workload of equipment and resources and adjust as required to individual job tasks.  Addresses customer complaints.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Technical/Operations background.
  • JM Trade an asset.
  • MS office suite and SAP working knowing.
  • 10 years relevant maintenance experience in chemical or similar industry.
  • Experience and knowledge of maintenance engineering methods.
  • Financial acumen and Business administration.
  • Budget tracking and management experience.
  • Experience in development/validation of standards and procedures.
  • Scheduling and Outage experience.
  • Leadership and People management skills.
  • Accountable for the development of the individuals within the department.
  • Decisiveness can assess a situation and formulate a plan forward.
  • Team player/Empathy.
  • Effective communication skills on both strategic and operations levels.
  • Possess a valid class 5 driver’s license.
  • Report to work, Fit for Duty
  • Physical:  Requires the ability to wear full and half face respirators.    Walking, sitting, climbing, lifting, balancing, kneeling, reaching, handling, fingering, talking, hearing, seeing. Requires visual acuity to distinguish colors.  
  • Aptitudes:  must possess the ability to understand the meaning of words and their ideas, as well as instructions and their underlying principles.  Perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately and possess eye-hand coordination.  Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English. 
  • Temperaments:  Must have the ability to accept responsibility, perform duties under stress, adapt to situations requiring preciseness and adapt to changing duties and responsibilities.
