Position Overview

 

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Purchaser is responsible for managing all procurement activities related to the maintenance department, ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials, equipment, and services. This role involves supplier management, oversight of warehouse operations, business analytics, and contributing to the optimization of business processes within the department.

Job Responsibilities

 

Purchasing

  • Negotiate and coordinate lead times, pricing, and order quantities with suppliers to secure favorable terms.
  • Evaluate quotes in collaboration with maintenance and engineering teams to select the best options for equipment and materials.
  • Create, process, and maintain Purchase Orders (POs) to ensure timely receipt of goods.
  • Expedite deliveries and manage supplier relationships to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Administer long-term contracts and analyze requisition reports to support efficient procurement operations.
  • Evaluate new suppliers for cost reduction and quality improvement opportunities.

 

Warehouse Management

  • Oversee inventory cycle counts and daily receiving activities.
  • Manage the organization and labeling of warehouse materials, including stock parts in the CMMS.
  • Oversee the site-wide vending machine program and manage AG catalyst logistics.
  • Perform material record adjustments in the CMMS to maintain accurate inventory data.

 

Business Analytics

  • Contribute to annual budget reviews and produce weekly maintenance spend reports.
  • Monitor financial ledgers and engage in month-end reporting to ensure accuracy.
  • Perform equipment cost analysis and generate monthly KPI reports.
  • Regularly review budget items to ensure alignment with financial objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

 

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment.
  • Extensive experience in procurement and supply chain management.
  • Proficiency in SAP or other enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.

 

Education 

  • A certificate and/or diploma in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field from a post-secondary institution, or 5+ years of procurement experience.

 

Special Skills or Requirements

  • Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

Report to work, Fit for Duty:

  • Physical:  Requires the ability to wear full and half face respirators.  Walking, sitting, climbing, lifting, balancing, kneeling, reaching, handling, fingering, talking, hearing, seeing. Requires visual acuity to distinguish colors. Must be able on occasion to work at heights (ladders and access to platforms on towers).
  • Aptitudes:  Must possess the ability to understand the meaning of words and their ideas, as well as instructions and their underlying principles.  Perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately, and possess eye-hand coordination.  Must be able to proficiently read, write, and communicate in English. 
  • Temperaments:  Must have the ability to accept responsibility, perform duties under stress, adapt to situations requiring preciseness and adapt to changing duties and responsibilities.
