Position Overview

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Purchaser is responsible for managing all procurement activities related to the Edmonton facility, ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials, equipment, and services. This role involves supplier management, inventory management and contributing to the optimization of business processes within the department.

Job Responsibilities

Procurement

  • Administer the creation, processing, and maintenance of purchase orders (P.O.’s) to ensure timely receipt of goods.
  • Coordinate and negotiate lead times, minimum order quantities, and pricing with suppliers to secure favorable terms, and effectively communicate these outcomes to internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate major equipment purchases or leases on behalf of the local site, ensuring alignment with project requirements and budget constraints.
  • Coordinate supplier relationship reviews with vendors by conducting performance evaluations to maintain high standards of service and quality. (Materials)
  • Coordinate the evaluation of quotes for equipment and materials by collaborating with maintenance and engineering teams to select the most appropriate options.
  • Coordinate the movement and inventory management of ag catalyst, overseeing the logistics of both spent and new materials to support operational needs.
  • Ensure parts and materials are procured at competitive prices while meeting required quality and lead-time specifications, maintaining accountability for cost-effective purchasing.
  • Evaluate potential new suppliers to identify opportunities for cost reduction and quality improvement and integrate them into the supply chain where appropriate.
  • Manage the maintenance of information and source records in the CMMS, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information related to maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) and inventory management.
  • Review and update open purchase orders bi-weekly and at month-end to meet financial reporting requirements.
  • Vendor setup and administration in sap (adjust banking information, contact information, payment terms, etc. as required.)

 

Reporting

  • Support the annual budget review and planning processes, contributing financial insights and analysis to support effective decision-making.
  • Monitor daily reports to manage financial ledgers for process safety management and equipment expense budgets to ensure accurate financial tracking and reporting.
  • Engage in month-end reporting to ensure financial records are accurate and compliant with company standards.
  • Perform equipment cost analysis and other spend analytics to identify cost-saving opportunities and optimize financial performance.

Minimum Qualifications

Essential

  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, with a solid understanding of the unique challenges and requirements of these settings.
  • Proficiency in procurement and supply chain management, with demonstrated ability to manage purchasing processes and supplier relationships effectively.
  • Expertise in SAP or other enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, ensuring accurate and efficient management of procurement and inventory data.

 

Education 

  • A certificate and/or diploma in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution, or 5+ years of relevant supply chain management experience.

 

Special Skills or Requirements

  • Strong negotiation and contract management skills, with the ability to secure favorable terms and manage supplier relationships effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enabling clear and effective collaboration with internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word, for effective data analysis and documentation.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in procurement processes and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines and organizational objectives.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with a focus on optimizing procurement processes and driving cost-saving initiatives.
