Position Overview

 

The Maintenance Technician - Mechanical is primarily responsible for the functionality, equipment operational readiness and maintenance of all types of rotating equipment (including but not limited to blowers, pumps, fans, agitators, etc.) used in the manufacturing processes at the Edmonton, AB production facility.
The Maintenance Technician - Mechanical is the primary liaison between the operations associates and the maintenance group for troubleshooting rotating equipment issues and completing repairs/replacements/upgrades of all rotating equipment on the Edmonton Site.

Job Responsibilities

 
  • Inspect, assemble/disassemble, troubleshoot, and repair all types of rotating equipment used on the Edmonton site. 
  • Carry out routine maintenance tasks safely.  
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting mechanical system to include pumps, fans, blowers, gearboxes, etc.
  • Knowledge of rebuilding different pumping systems, centrifugal, positive displacement, diaphragm pumps, vacuum pumps, turbine pumps, vertical pumps.      
  • Investigates repair and rebuild parts requirements for all rotating equipment. 
  • Assists in obtaining & evaluating quotations for parts and service. 
  • Assists in ordering and obtaining services and parts for repairs and replacements.
  • Ensure routine PM and inspection tasks are executed as planned and recommend changes/upgrades as required to improve equipment reliability.
  • Assist in maintaining the integrity of Hexion Canada Inc. required standards; including, but not limited to ISO, SOX, ABSA, & PF standards.
  • Participates in regular housekeeping audits and daily tours of production areas to identify and communicate areas of strength and improvement.
  • Participates in quality and customer incident investigations and assists with identifying and implementing recommendations to prevent recurrence. 
  • Participates in equipment failure root cause analysis and employee training as requested.
  • Participates on site PSM and PHA teams.
  • Provides input into capital and maintenance upgrade projects.

Reports directly to the Maintenance Manager. Works closely with:

  • Maintenance Leads
  • Operations Team
  • Shipping Team
  • Center of Excellence Team
  • Supply Chain Management

 

Minimum Qualifications

 
  • Computer literacy in MS Office and computerized process systems is necessary.
  • Previous experience maintaining heavy industrial equipment.  Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical seals, equipment laser alignment, rigging, schematics, blueprints, overhead cranes, basic welding techniques.
  • Possess good organizational, verbal and written skills.
  • Possess an understanding of industrial safety requirements for local jurisdiction.
  • Must be familiar with safety, environmental, and Industrial Hygiene rules and regulations.
  • Must know engineering/pipe and equipment standard specifications.
  • Must know how to specify material and equipment needs.
  • Must have prior experience with maintenance information systems.
  • Computer literacy in MS Windows is necessary and SAP experience is a benefit.
  • Available for periodic on-call and after hour call-outs.
  • Proficient use of computerized maintenance management systems (SAP preferred).
  • Ability to work in a self-motivated team environment with strong work ethic, positive attitude and proven attendance record.

 

Education 

  • High School Diploma 
  • 4th level Apprentice will be considered or Interprovincial Trade Certificate – Millwright
  • Certificates of Competency as well as any required certification must be maintained and available upon request

 

Special Skills or Requirements

  • Must be physically fit, fit for duty and be capable of working while wearing a half or full-face respirator and climbing vertical ladders.  
  • Capable of working at heights or within confined spaces.
  • This position requires “On Call’ availability.
  • Physical: Walking, driving, standing, lifting, sitting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, at heights, stooping, kneeling, reaching, fingering, talking, hearing and seeing.  Work in all weather conditions.
  • Aptitudes: Must possess the ability to understand the meaning of words and their ideas, as well as instructions and their underlying principles.  Perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately and possess eye-hand motor coordination.  
  • Temperaments: Must have the ability to accept responsibility, perform duties under stress, adapt to situations requiring preciseness, and adapt to changing duties and responsibilities.  Must be able to adapt to situations involving the interpretation of feelings, ideas, or facts; be able to influence people in the opinions, attitudes, or judgments; and be able to generalize, evaluate, make decisions, and perform repetitive work.
  • Department Specific: May be required to operate (and be fully licensed to operate) a telehandler forklift, standard gas-powered forklift, aerial work platform (telescoping boom or scissor lift) or any other equipment that may be required for maintenance related tasks. All training for operation of these devices will be provided, as required, by Hexion.

If currently an employee of the Company, you must have current satisfactory work performance and in most cases, have been in your current role for 18 months.
