Position Overview

 

Primary focus is on the testing and evaluation of formaldehyde-based resin chemistry in a fast-paced laboratory.  Work as part of a team to test and evaluate raw incoming materials, in process samples, manufacturing and shipping samples to ensure that our customers receive a quality product.  Our customers and our company define quality products. Function as part of a safe and environmentally sound manufacturing team.  Comply with all policies, procedures and rules.  Participate in safety and non-conformance root cause analysis teams and be an active part of ISO9001.

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Actively participate in the EHS program including completion of JRAs, issue work permits, become familiar with necessary SDS and complete any other EHS initiatives as required.
  • Complete analytical tests on raw materials, in process and finished product samples and perform repetitive work.
  • Perform trouble shooting, evaluate, make decisions, routine maintenance, reagent preparation, training, calibration and repair of lab equipment.
  • Maintain ISO9001 requirements.
  • Set-up, develop and review procedures for analytical equipment as required.
  • Provide analytical support for reworking off spec material.
  • Provide support for corporate initiatives as required.
  • Provide support to plant as required.
  • Maintain housekeeping.
  • Maintain neat, accurate logbooks and data records. 
  • Perform arithmetic quickly and have good eye-hand coordination. Willing to do manual labor.  
  • Physical: Work in all weather conditions. Walking, sitting, climbing, lifting, kneeling, reaching, handling, dexterity, talking, hearing, seeing. Possess the ability to handle weights up to 55 lbs. Viewing a computer screen for extended periods of time. Requires visual acuity to distinguish colors.
  • Aptitudes: Must possess the ability to understand the meaning of words and their ideas, as well as instructions and their underlying principles.   Perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately and possess good hand-eye coordination.  Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English. 
  • Temperaments: Must have the ability to accept responsibility, perform duties under stress, adapt to situations requiring preciseness, and adjust to changing duties and responsibilities.  Work well in a fast-changing environment, work collaboratively with others, demonstrate ability to work effectively as part of a team, and be a leader in mutual respect in the workplace. 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • 2 – 4 years’ experience in a lab environment, or diploma in chemical technology or biological sciences.
  • Good multi-tasking skills are a requirement as well as an aptitude in English and mathematics.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office and SAP are an asset.
  • Duties, responsibilities, and activities above but not limited to and subject to change as per role requirements. 
  • Must pass Fit for Duty
  • Fitness capability- must be able to lift up to 55 pounds
