Position Overview

 

Reporting to the Laboratory Manager. The role’s primary focus working in application lab evaluating of formaldehyde-based resin chemistry through panel making. Additionally, this position is responsible for maintaining housekeeping, chemical inventory, logging results and maintaining associated records. Prepare and test samples following experimental designs provided by responsible chemist. Maintain a safe work area.

Job Responsibilities

 
  • Prepare OSB strands and plywood veneers for manufacture of panels in the pilot plant.
  • Test wood specimens and accurately record data
  • Assist with organizing and planning laboratory work flow.
  • Maintain housekeeping.
  • Responsible for chemical inventory and ordering.
  • Maintain neat notebooks and data records. 
  • Prepare reports of laboratory results as directed by the supervisor and/or chemist.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area. 
  • Knowledge and use of necessary MSDS’s. 
  • Assist with routine maintenance and repair of lab equipment.
  • Responsible for arranging calibration & verification of Equipment for ISO compliance

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • 2 years’ experience in a lab environment or warehouse an asset
  • Working towards Diploma in chemistry, chemical technology or similar 
  • Knowledge of database management
  • Aptitude in mathematics
  • Basic Research Skills 
  • Basic Software Knowledge
  • Use of site PPE
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License
  • Satisfactory back check and Fit for Duty screening
  • Work Environment: Occasional duties: Strand sieving in a Quonset involve working at a temperature of 25 to 30°C and -10 to -20°C.
  • Physical Demands: Involves physical activity including but not limited to: panel making, panel cutting using saw, pushing and or pulling up to 140kg of wood chips in a supersacks and lifting 25-35kg using proper safe techniques and or equipment.
  • Duties, responsibilities and activities above but not limited to and subject to change as per role requirements.
  • Post Secondary schooling in progress
  • Minimal to 15% local day travel
