Position Overview

 

This position is responsible for the testing of inbound and outbound shipments.  Lead daily Laboratory activities to ensure quality and consistency of products.  Lead efforts to ensure customer quality requirements are met.  Maintain the effectiveness of the Laboratory/Quality Council, to include safety and environmental compliance, training, and teamwork.  Partner with all site functions to meet site goals.

 

This position reports to the Site Leader

Job Responsibilities

 

Safety

  • Ensure that all Safety Manual requirements are followed.
  • Maintain housekeeping in the Laboratory and conduct audits.
  • Ensure incident management and emergency communications are completed.

Environmental Protection

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations.
  • Ensure proper disposal of all hazardous and non-hazardous materials generated or used by the Lab.
  • Conduct testing of thermal oxidizer to show compliance.
  • Ensure environmental incidents are communicated to the appropriate leadership contacts and team members.  

Quality

  • Lead all day-to-day Quality Control activities.
  • Responsible for the calibration and certification of all QC test equipment on site.
  • Responsible for the certification of all production, shipping and QC personnel on test methods.
  • Ensure Non-Conformance Reports are generated throughout the site for non-conforming raw materials and products.
  • Responsible for chemical exposure monitoring.
  • Ensure Certificates of Analysis are created properly.
  • Maintain Laboratory Operating Guide.
  • Perform sampling and testing of raw materials and products as required.
  • Generate QC charts for customers.
  • Review batch sheets for accuracy and to troubleshoot production issues.
  • Utilize SAP and Business Warehouse to maintain quality data and troubleshoot production issues.
  • Participate in continuous improvement teams.
  • Participate and lead the Quality Improvement Plan team.
  • Participate on the Site Leadership Team.
  • Serve as an ISO Auditor for the site and ensure all site documentation is ISO compliant.

Planning /Productivity/Cost

  • Ensure product delivery meets customer needs.
  • Purchase supplies and equipment to maintain Laboratory function, while staying within budget.
  • Available for off-hours response to delivery and customer issues.

Leadership

  • Partner with site leadership team, operating associates and other functional groups to identify opportunities and develop and implement action plans to improve team function. 
  • Foster and encourage cross-functional teamwork and a collaborative environment within the department.
  • Manage conflict and difficult situations effectively and fairly.

Human Resources

  • Establish work schedules and staffing requirements to meet the customer demand.
  • Train plant associates as required.
  • Ensure all members of the Lab Team have the required job skills and regulatory training to complete tasks.
  • Encourage employee involvement in team activities.
  • Encourage employee suggestions for improvement and implement feasible ideas.

  • Complete other tasks as assigned by Leadership

Minimum Qualifications

 
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a laboratory environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field. 
  • Good communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills are required.  Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Physical: Walking, driving, standing, lifting 55 pounds repeatedly, sitting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, fingering, talking, hearing, and seeing.  Ability to enter confined spaces and wear a respirator.
  • Aptitudes: Must possess the ability to understand the meaning of words and their ideas, as well as instructions and their underlying principles.  Perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately and possess eye-hand motor coordination.  Temperaments: Must have the ability to accept responsibility, perform duties under stress, adapt to situations requiring preciseness, and adapt to changing duties and responsibilities.  Must be able to adapt to situations involving the interpretation of feelings, ideas, or facts; be able to influence people in the opinions, attitudes, or judgments; and be able to generalize, evaluate, make decisions, and perform repetitive work.

Preferred Qualifications

 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and SAP
  • Leadership training and experience
  • Must be able to analyze and interpret data, determine sound conclusions and make recommendations.
