Position Overview

This position is responsible for all inbound and outbound shipments. Ensures compliance, training and execution of material movement at the site. Coordinates activities to meet production and customer requirements and demands. Maintains the effectiveness of the shipping team (including goods and services) in a manner consistent with optimal productivity, regulatory compliance and cost of goods sold. Partners with all site functions to meet operational goals.

Job Responsibilities

Safety, EHS & Regulatory Compliance

• Maintain a strong daily presence on the shop floor to support safe work practices, provide operational leadership, identify improvement opportunities, and reinforce site expectations.
• Serve as the department's EHS leader by promoting a strong safety culture, conducting safety observations, participating in incident investigations, ensuring compliance with site procedures, and leading corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable safety, environmental, transportation, and regulatory requirements related to the shipment and delivery of hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
• Conduct environmental and operational audits of shipping equipment and processes.
• Coordinate periodic truck and railcar inspections, testing, and repairs as required.
• Ensure environmental, safety, and transportation incidents are promptly communicated to appropriate stakeholders and leadership teams.

Leadership & Employee Development

• Lead, coach, and develop shipping associates through structured training, qualification, and performance management activities.
• Facilitate onboarding, task-specific training, and continuous development of shipping personnel while maintaining required training and qualification records.
• Establish work schedules and staffing plans necessary to meet business and customer delivery requirements.
• Ensure all members of the Shipping Team possess the skills, certifications, and regulatory training required to perform their responsibilities.
• Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, collaboration, and operational excellence.
• Encourage employee involvement, engagement, and implementation of improvement ideas.
• Effectively manage conflict, performance issues, and difficult situations in a fair and professional manner.

Logistics, Planning & Customer Service

• Ensure product deliveries are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with customer requirements.
• Develop and execute communication plans for non-routine deliveries to ensure alignment between Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Customer Service, and customers.
• Track railcar movements and manage railcar inventory to support inbound and outbound logistics requirements.
• Liaise with transportation providers and carriers to resolve day-to-day issues and support resolution of recurring logistics challenges.
• Provide off-hours support and response for customer delivery, transportation, and logistics issues as needed.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

• Investigate shipment-related quality concerns, delivery issues, and customer complaints.
• Determine root causes of product delivery, logistics, and process non-conformances.
• Utilize structured problem-solving techniques, analytical tools, and cross-functional teamwork to improve quality, service, and operational performance.
• Develop, implement, and track corrective and preventive actions to completion.

Cost Management & Operational Performance

• Monitor distribution costs and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce transportation expenses.
• Track, evaluate, approve, and minimize non-optimal freight movements and associated charges.
• Monitor common carrier, railcar, and logistics-related expenses and recommend actions to improve cost performance.
• Partner with site leadership and cross-functional teams to identify improvement opportunities and implement strategies that enhance safety, service, reliability, and cost effectiveness.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: 

• This position reports to the Site Leader

Minimum Qualifications

Job Qualifications & Experience:

• A minimum of 5 years experience in a similar industrial manufacturing operation requirement.

Education: 

• High School Diploma; Post secondary vocational/technical training

SpecialNeeds/Special Skills/Other:

• Good communication, leadership and interpersonal skills are required. Must be able to work in a team environment. Must have/become competent in knowledge of DOT requirements.
• Physical: Walking, driving, standing, lifting 55 pounds repeatedly, sitting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, fingering, talking, hearing, and seeing. Ability to enter confined spaces and wear a respirator.
• Aptitudes: Must possess the ability to understand the meaning of words and their ideas, as well as instructions and their underlying principles. Perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately, and possess eye-hand motor coordination. Temperaments: Must have the ability to accept responsibility, perform duties under stress, adapt to situations requiring preciseness, and adapt to changing duties and responsibilities. Must be able to adapt to situations involving the interpretation of feelings, ideas, or facts; be able to influence people in the opinions, attitudes, or judgments; and be able to generalize, evaluate, make decisions, and perform repetitive work.

Preferred Qualifications

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and SAP
• Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or Business is preferred
• Must be able to analyze and interpret data, determine sound conclusions and make recommendations.
