Position Overview

 

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist supports environmental compliance and health and safety programs across the Company’s manufacturing network. This position plays a key role in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while driving continuous improvement in safety performance and environmental stewardship.

 

Reporting to the EHS Manager, the EHS Specialist collaborates closely with site leadership and operations teams to develop, implement, and maintain effective EHS programs, procedures, and systems. This role provides technical expertise, assists in audits and inspections, supports incident investigations, and helps foster a proactive safety culture that aligns with the Company’s core values and operational goals.

Job Responsibilities

 

Environmental Compliance

  • Maintain and support environmental programs to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., air, water, waste, stormwater, and hazardous materials).
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports such as Tier II, TRI, and other agency-required filings.
  • Support management of environmental permits, including recordkeeping, compliance tracking, and coordination with regulatory agencies as needed.
  • Maintain waste profiles, coordinate shipments, and ensure compliance with RCRA and other waste management requirements.
  • Participate in environmental audits and inspections and assist in corrective action implementation.
  • Support environmental monitoring programs.

 

Health & Safety

  • Assist in implementing safety programs and procedures to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Support job safety analyses (JSAs), hazard assessments, and incident investigations to identify root causes and corrective actions.
  • Conduct or coordinate safety training to reinforce safe work practices and regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in safety committee meetings and help promote employee engagement in safety initiatives.
  • Support development and maintenance of emergency response plans and drills.

 

General EHS Support

  • Serve as a resource to operations and maintenance personnel for EHS-related questions and issues.
  • Maintain accurate EHS documentation and ensure systems are kept up to date.
  • Provide support during agency inspections and internal audits.
  • Collaborate with the EHS Manager on company-wide initiatives and special projects.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts that drive excellence in both environmental and safety performance.
  • Help track and analyze safety performance metrics and identify opportunities for improvement.

Minimum Qualifications

 
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety roles within a manufacturing or chemical industry setting.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations (RCRA, EPCRA) and occupational safety standards (OSHA, NFPA).
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities across multiple facilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to influence and collaborate with all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency with standard office software and EHS data management systems.
  • Self-directed, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently and within teams.
     

Education

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Occupational Safety, or related technical field.
  • Professional certifications, such as Certified Safety Professional, preferred
     

Travel

  • 20% travel for site visits and meetings
