Position Overview

Serves as a Hope Site Multi-Qualified Maintenance Technician. Responsibilities include installing, configuring, troubleshooting, maintaining, and documenting plant process equipment, instrumentation and control systems.  Ensures work is captured in SAP maintenance module system.  Participates in plant safety, environmental, and production programs, including improvement teams.  Assists with project activities as necessary. 


A  Maintenance Technician should be fully (and demonstrably) confident of their technical and personal abilities and should be able to use their abilities to positively affect the personnel and plant around them daily.  A Maintenance Technician should be willing to play a larger role in “looking outward” and promoting positive change throughout the entire plant.

Job Responsibilities

Safety 

 

  • Ensures that safe work practices are followed; ensures Hexion FPD Safety Manual is followed. 
  • Participates in safety audits, training, inspections, and PSM/PHA activities. 
  • Ensures that unsafe conditions are resolved in a timely manner. 
  • Willingness and ability to enter incident investigations into the Gensuite system and to participate on the incident investigation team for continuous improvement, and to prevent reoccurrences. 
  • Participate in emergency response activities including developing and executing emergency preparedness drills. 
  • Ensures excellent housekeeping is always maintained, both personally and as a unit team.  Understands that a clean plant is a safe plant. 
  • Demonstrates the ability to safely participate in maintenance and operational changes (including safe work, hot work permits, LOTO etc). 
  • Willingness and ability to ensure that all team assigned safety requirements are met on a monthly basis for review by the site’s Safety Committee. 
  • Willingness to participate in the development of safety and environmental programs for site wide implementation as detailed in the Hexion corporate safety and environmental manuals. 


Environmental Compliance 

 

  • Ensures environmental policies and practices are followed and that spills are properly reported and managed. Actively participate and promote the facility recycle programs. 
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of the site environmental permits and discharge limits and assist in training of other employees. 


Quality 

 

  • Participates in the investigation of quality incidents and takes action to prevent recurrence.   
  • Ensures that maintenance procedures are adequate and followed so that equipment is able to produce the product in spec.  
  • Demonstrates analytical insight and process knowledge of entire production process. 
     

Additional Responsibilities

Core Functions 

 

  • Works in a manner that reinforces the Hexion Core Principles and beliefs. 
  • Coordinates, schedules, performs and completes work orders and PM inspections technically, in cooperation with operations personnel. 
  • Performs hands-on mechanical installation, repair, and maintenance for all process equipment at the site. 
  • Interact with vendors in getting parts identified properly for ordering and delivery. 
  • Gain an intimate understanding of process and process variables. 
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime as needed to maintain business coverage. 
  • Willingness and ability to coordinate the activities of the team when a resin outage occurs to ensure productive value-added work continues despite no resin production.  
  • Effectively troubleshoots and solves operational issues. 
  • Demonstrates analytical insight and process knowledge in the ability to offer appropriate and timely corrective actions.   
  • Demonstrates ability to train and evaluate new personnel with clear, easily understood instructions and measurement metrics (willing and able to be a trainer). 
  • Demonstrates a willingness and ability to generate new or update existing procedures. 
  • Demonstrates the willingness and courage to accept the responsibility for one’s actions, act appropriately based upon the situation, and be accountable for the results. 
  • Independently completes day-to-day tasks with minimal supervision and to complete other special assignments, with an appropriate level of supervisory involvement. 
  • Demonstrates genuine concern and caring for the impact of one’s decisions upon all of the others in the workplace. 
  • Demonstrates the desire and ability to implement processes, build ownership, and hold each other accountable. 
  • Promptly ensures reporting and resolution of process or mechanical variations or deviations. 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of SAP maintenance modules including the work order notification process. 
  • Assists in scheduling shutdowns to maintain reliable and efficient operations.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:    

  • Reports through the Maintenance Leader and Site Leader. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 year’s experience in industrial mechanic and instrumentation 
  • Excellent organizational, communication and planning skills; learns quickly, and is detail oriented.  
  • Ability to read mechanic, electronic and pneumatic schematics 
  • Ability to troubleshoot instrumentation systems 
  • Understanding of chemical plant processes while demonstrating good safety practices 
  • Mechanical experience 
  • Pipefitting and general millwright skills 
  • Must be available for afterhours and weekends callouts 
  • Experienced forklift and manlift operator 
  • High School Diploma or GED 
  • Attention to Detail 
  • Computer experience 
  • Good Organization Skills 
  • Strong Mechanical Aptitude 
  • Strong Team Player 
  • Ability to multi-task 
  • Self Starter 
  • Welding Certification a plus 
  • Physical:  Walking, driving, standing, lifting 55 pounds repeatedly, sitting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, fingering, talking, hearing, and seeing.  Ability to enter confined spaces and wear a respirator. 
  • Aptitudes:  Must possess the ability to understand the meaning of words and their ideas, as well as instructions and their underlying principles.  Perform some arithmetic operations, possess eye-hand motor coordination and be able to operate a forklift. 
  • Temperament:  Must have the ability to accept responsibility, perform duties under stress, adapt to situations requiring preciseness and adapt to changing duties and responsibilities.  Must be able to adapt to situations involving the interpretation of feelings, ideas, or facts; be able to influence people in the opinions, attitudes or judgments; and be able to generalize, evaluate, make decisions and perform repetitive work. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of process equipment 
  • Good trouble shooting skills 
  • Post Secondary Education/ Vocational Preferred 
  • Must be able to analyze and interpret data, come to sound conclusions and make recommendations.
