Position Overview

 

The Maintenance & Reliability Leader is responsible for ensuring safe, reliable, and cost‑effective operation of all plant assets in a mid‑sized chemical manufacturing facility. This role oversees maintenance execution, reliability engineering, asset strategy, and long‑term equipment health. The leader drives a proactive reliability culture, develops maintenance systems, and partners closely with Operations, Engineering, and EHS to deliver high plant uptime and mechanical integrity.

Job Responsibilities

 

Maintenance & Reliability Management

  • Administer and support a multidisciplinary maintenance team while promoting a strong safety and reliability culture. 
  • Coordinate daily maintenance execution, preventive maintenance (PM), and corrective maintenance activities to support safe and reliable operations. 
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with OSHA, PSM, environmental, and corporate safety standards. 
  • Administer maintenance budgeting activities, spare parts optimization, and contractor performance to improve cost efficiency and asset reliability. 

 

Reliability & Asset Management

  • Administer and enhance the plant reliability program, including PM optimization, predictive maintenance (PdM), condition monitoring, and asset performance initiatives. 
  • Apply reliability methodologies such as RCM, FMEA, RCA, and bad actor elimination to improve equipment performance and reduce downtime. 
  • Develop and maintain asset strategies for rotating equipment, fixed equipment, instrumentation, and electrical systems. 
  • Utilize CMMS/EAM systems, reliability analytics, and performance metrics to support data-driven decision making and continuous improvement initiatives. 

 

Mechanical Integrity & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with PSM Mechanical Integrity requirements for pressure vessels, piping systems, relief devices, instrumentation, and related process equipment. 
  • Administer inspection programs, turnaround planning activities, and equipment certification processes to maintain asset integrity and regulatory compliance. 
  • Maintain accurate equipment records, inspection histories, and maintenance documentation in accordance with company and regulatory requirements. 
  • Ensure Management of Change (MOC) and Mechanical Integrity (MI) requirements under OSHA Process Safety Management regulations are effectively implemented and maintained. 

 

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive improvements in equipment uptime, maintenance productivity, reliability performance, and maintenance cost optimization. 
  • Facilitate cross-functional problem-solving efforts to reduce unplanned downtime, eliminate chronic equipment failures, and improve process stability. 
  • Support implementation of new technologies, digital tools, and reliability best practices to improve overall asset performance. 

 

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Operations to prioritize maintenance activities, resolve chronic reliability issues, and support production and business objectives. 
  • Collaborate with Engineering on capital projects, equipment upgrades, and design-for-reliability initiatives. 
  • Communicate asset health, operational risks, maintenance priorities, and reliability performance metrics to plant leadership and key stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

 
  • Engineering Degree or Equivalent Maintenance Experience in Industrial Environment.
  • At least 5 years Engineering Experience.    
  • Must be familiar with safety, environmental and industrial hygiene rules and regulations.   
  • Must know engineering/pipe and equipment specifications.  
  • Must know how to specify material and equipment needs.   
  • Must understand maintenance information systems.   
  • Must be able to coordinate emergency situations.   
  • Must be able to identify tools and equipment.   
  • Must be able to collect reliability data and interpret it.   
  • Must manage/oversee the status of work.   
  • Must have advanced computer skills. 
  • Experience with CMMS/EAM systems: SAP.
  • Fit for Duty a requirement in a Safety Sensitive Site.

  • Fit for Duty and fitness capabilities 
  • Physical: Requires the ability to wear full and half face respirators.  Must be able to work in all weather conditions.  Walking, sitting, climbing, lifting, balancing, kneeling, reaching, handling, dexterity, talking, hearing, seeing. Possess the ability to handle weights up to 55 lbs. Requires visual acuity to distinguish colors. 
  • Aptitudes: must possess the ability to understand the meaning of words and their ideas, as well as instructions and their underlying principles.  Perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately and possess eye-hand coordination.  Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English. 
  • Temperaments: Must have the ability to accept responsibility, perform duties under stress, adapt to situations requiring preciseness and adapt to changing duties and responsibilities.  

Preferred Qualifications

 
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward it.
  • Certifications such as CMRP, CRE, or PMP.
  • Experience with predictive technologies (vibration, ultrasound, oil analysis).
  • Background in batch or continuous chemical processing environments.
  • Experience leading turnarounds or major maintenance events.
