Position Overview
Deliver reliable, high-quality analytical data to support production and product quality, while acting as a subject matter expert in gas chromatography and wet chemical techniques. The role is also responsible for troubleshooting, optimizing, and improving analytical methods and ensuring robust performance of laboratory analyses and related process-supporting measurements.
All in compliance with quality, safety, and company procedures.
Job Responsibilities
Independently execute, interpret, and perform analytical work to ensure reliable and timely data delivery, while driving continuous improvement in analytical methods and laboratory performance.
The initial core of the role is focused on QA/QC activities supporting production processes, complemented by non-routine analytical work of increasing complexity.
In addition, the role actively contributes to the evolution of the laboratory towards greater use of inline/online analytical techniques and smarter, data-driven offline analysis.
Positioning Statement:
This role is positioned as a (senior) analytical specialist within the laboratory, combining routine analytical responsibilities with advanced troubleshooting, method optimization, and continuous improvement of analytical performance.
- Analytical Execution:
- Independently perform routine and non-routine
- analyses on process, raw material, and product samples
- Critically assess analytical results against specifications, trends, process expectations and reference materials
- Escalate and investigate deviations using structured problem-solving approaches
- Prepare routine samples to be outsourced to external laboratories, including documentation
- Method Optimization & Development:
- Proactively identify, propose and implement improvements in analytical workflows, methods, and laboratory efficiency
- Contribute to updating SOPs and best practices based on operational experience
- Support or lead method development and validation activities for new or modified analyses
- Ensure analytical methods remain fit-for-purpose for evolving production processes
Additional Job Responsibilities
- Equipment & Technical Ownership:
- Take technical ownership of assigned analytical equipment, with a focus on GC and titration systems
Identify recurring equipment issues (“bad actors”) and implement structural improvements - Perform or coordinate advanced troubleshooting and maintenance with vendors where needed
- Produce professional reports that present results, analysis, conclusions, and recommendations; properly file all project documentation.
- Take technical ownership of assigned analytical equipment, with a focus on GC and titration systems
- Data Quality & Reliability:
- Ensure data integrity through calibrations, QC checks, and validation activities
- Challenge unexpected results and ensure proper follow-up and documentation
- Safeguard analytical quality standards in support of production decisions
- Miscellaneous:
- Follow up when stock of chemicals, consumables, glassware and/or spare parts becomes too low
- Perform additional tasks in the Laboratory as divided up by the Laboratory Facility Coordinator and indicated by the Analytical Lead
- Safely handle chemicals and equipment

Minimum Qualifications
- High Laboratory Education (HLO), specialism: analytical(/organic) chemistry.
- Or Middle Laboratory Education (MLO), analytical chemistry with significant relevant knowledge and experience (on products, production processes and analyses) and HLO working and thinking level.
- Over 8 years of relevant working experience in a laboratory (chemical industry)
Required technical expertise:
- Extensive hands-on experience in Gas Chromatography (GC), including troubleshooting, method optimization, and maintenance (Agilent preferred)
- Strong experience with wet chemical techniques, especially (automated) titration systems (e.g. Metrohm), including troubleshooting and method optimization
- Experience with LIMS systems (preferably Thermo SampleManager)
- Experience supporting process-related analyses (in-process and end product)

- Familiarity with chromatography data systems (e.g. OpenLabII)
