Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented R&D Lab Analyst to join our Research & Technical Services team. In this role, you will support the development, testing, and scale-up of chemical products in a collaborative lab environment. You will work closely with chemists and other technical staff to execute experiments, maintain equipment, analyze data, and help ensure safe, compliant lab operations.
Key Responsibilities
Core Duties
- Assist chemists with formulation, testing, and evaluation of new and existing chemical products.
- Perform a variety of physical and chemical tests using appropriate lab techniques and instrumentation.
- Prepare laboratory-scale batches and record observations with accuracy and clarity.
- Maintain clean, organized, and compliant laboratory spaces.
- Track and manage chemical inventory, ensuring proper labeling and storage.
- Read and interpret Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) to handle chemicals safely.
- Accurately maintain lab notebooks, records, and technical documentation
Expanded Duties
- Analyze test results and contribute to technical summaries and reports.
- Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and small-scale process equipment.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, ISO)
- Collect, label, and prepare samples for testing and ensure proper chemical waste disposal.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance lab processes and efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Production, Engineering, Quality Control) to solve technical issues.
- Assist with onboarding and training of new lab personnel as needed.
- Use lab databases and software tools to log data, track samples, and generate reports.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a closely related field or equivalent experience
Experience & Skills:
- Experience working in a chemical laboratory setting (industry or academic) in preferred
- Familiarity with common chemical lab techniques and instruments (e.g., titration, pH, spectroscopy, GC, etc.)
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Ability to follow protocols and SOPs accurately.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and lab data systems
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Knowledge of lab safety protocols and best practices
Additional Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- May require occasional evening or weekend work based on project needs.
What You Bring
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Hands-on experience in a chemical laboratory
- Familiarity with synthesis of thermosetting polymers such as phenol-, urea-, melamine-formaldehyde
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and data entry tools; statistical knowledge a plus
- Able to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Safety-conscious, detail-oriented, and proactive.
